Istanbul was unexpectedly great. This isn't our first visit, but most likely not having to visit landmarks, we spent our days like we would in New York. I was there to sample and finish work for Everyday Silver. The studio I worked with was nearby our hotel in Nişantaşı, so it gave us the chance to explore the area pretty well. Great food, great coffee but more modern, almost like New York but different aesthetics.
I need to find myself in an old building, have a terrace and wakeup everyday to have the most glorious selection of turkish breakfast.
As for locations, we loved Galata and Balat the most. Full of local and vintage shops and coffee as well. We planned the day to have an old school turkish coffee at Mandabatmaz then hit Arter gallery and Pera Museum. On Sunday, we ventured on a coffee hunt. We found the best modern take on turkish coffee at Balat Cumbalı Kahve. As for tea, I might had the best at Karabatak and Dem at karaköy, but definitely didn't enjoy the aesthetics of the area.
